Breckland Council’s Planning Committee has granted outline planning permission for up to 4,000 new homes on the outskirts of Attleborough.

At a special meeting of the committee held in the town this morning (15 March), councillors voted to approve plans which will bring new housing opportunities to the district along with associated infrastructure and amenities.

Attleborough has been earmarked for growth over the coming decades as part of Breckland’s draft Local Plan and proposals have been subject to a number of public consultations for more than a decade. .

Today’s decision is a major milestone in delivery of the town’s growth, which is expected to see the housing built over the coming 25 years. However, as with all developments, the applicant, Ptarmigan, will be required to seek further planning consents in due course to address some of the finer details of the scheme.

In addition to the housing, the application discussed and approved by councillors today also includes plans to introduce a new local centre and two neighbourhood centres, two new primary schools, a footbridge over the Leys Lane level crossing, a new Linear Park running through the development and a link road from London Road to Old Buckenham Road.
